Crack splits road in Icelandic town threatened by volcanic eruption – video

Seismic activity has left cracks running through roads in the fishing town of Grindavik as Iceland faced the threat of a volcanic eruption. Thousands of earthquakes have thrust the ground upward in places by 1 metre or more. The Icelandic meteorological office said there was a ‘significant likelihood’ of a volcanic eruption in an area north of Grindavik near the Helgafell mountain. A volcanic system on the Reykjanes peninsula has erupted three times since 2021, after being dormant for 800 years.
